Union Terminal Cincinnati

Cincinnati Union Terminal is one of America’s great railway landmarks, with its enormous curved façade and distinctive Art Deco character. In drawing the station, I was interested in the way the building sits within the larger landscape of Cincinnati, with the roads, trains and surrounding city forming a setting for the architecture. The sweeping geometry of the terminal makes it especially enjoyable to draw from above, revealing relationships that are difficult to appreciate from street level. I wanted the drawing to capture not only the remarkable building itself, but also the movement and activity that make a railway station a civic place.
